Safety Grant Program

IMWCA offers two grants: the Safety Study Grant and the Safety Implementation Grant. Each IMWCA member project may be eligible for one grant per application period.

Safety Study Grant

Purpose:

Supports innovative projects designed to reduce or eliminate workplace injuries, especially those that address the top causes of recent claims. Priority is given to projects that are reproducible across other IMWCA members.

  • Up to $10,000 per grant
  • $100,000 total pool available annually
  • Applications accepted July 1–April 30 of each fiscal year
  • Applications after April 30 will be considered for the next fiscal year
  • Pilot “train-the-trainer” programs (e.g., stretching, lifting techniques)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder prevention training
  • New or innovative tools or processes to reduce back, shoulder, or knee injuries
  • Projects using innovative technology
  • Basic or OSHA-required PPE
  • General safety training contracts
  • Equipment already required by regulation (e.g., machine guards)
  • Project description and safety goals
  • Number of participating employees
  • Implementation timeline and review plan
  • Partners or collaborators (if any)
  • Funding amount requested and itemized spending plan
  • Reimbursement or direct bill request (note: direct bills must be in IMWCA’s name)
  • Member must agree to allow IMWCA to share project results
  • Member must submit a governing body resolution of support
  • Study must address workplace injury trends from the past two years
  • Approved projects must meet reporting deadlines:
    • 6-month report: Progress and grant spending
    • 1 and 2-year report: Outcomes, final expenses, and receipts
  • Impact on workplace safety
  • Relevance to top causes of injury
  • Longevity and sustainability
  • Replicability across members
  • Degree of innovation and ease of implementation

Safety Implementation Grant

Purpose:

Helps members implement proven safety strategies based on prior safety studies. Focus areas may include footwear, training programs, equipment, or wellness initiatives.

  • Up to $10,000 per project
  • Applications accepted July 1–April 30 of each fiscal year
  • Applications after April 30 will be considered for the next fiscal year
  • Projects must be based on prior studies
  • Slip-resistant footwear
  • ATV/UTV Certified Instructor Training
  • Personal defense devices for law enforcement
  • Workplace wellness initiatives that will reduce injuries
  • Safety warning devices
  • Projects must not involve basic or required PPE
  • Direct payments must list IMWCA as the billed entity (preferred: reimbursement)
  • Members may only receive one Implementation Grant per project
