Safety Innovation Award

Each project is eligible for either a Safety Study Grant or a Safety Innovation Award per application period.
The Safety Innovation Award will be presented to members that developed new processes, equipment or programs which improve workplace safety and are transferable to other members. Processes, equipment or programs under patent or with patent pending are not eligible for consideration.
Up to 10 members will be given the Safety Innovation Award, which includes $1000.
Please submit the following with the application:
  • An outline of the project that includes the problem to be addressed and the applicant's approach to the solution.
  • Number of employees that will participate in the project.
  • Other entities involved, if applicable.
  • High-resolution photos or video that demonstrates how the innovation functions and improves safety.
An application will only be eligible if it includes specifications of the tool or equipment design and an agreement to share the design with other interested members at no cost. Members receiving the Safety Innovation Award must also agree to be featured in IMWCA materials that highlights how the project enhances workplace safety for local governments. IMWCA may request more information to develop these materials.

Award Evaluation

Applications for the Safety Innovation Award will be evaluated as they are received. Applications will be judged by a panel of members. The process will evaluate the impact or potential impact on the member’s safety efforts, including how many people it can affect and its longevity. The process will also consider cost-effectiveness, use of inter-government collaboration and innovation.
All applicants will be alerted by email and postal mail of their application’s status within 45 business days.

Entry Deadline

Applications are due in the IMWCA office by April 29, 2021. However, applications are evaluated as they are submitted, with money and awards presented throughout the year. In other words, submit your application early for the best chance at being recognized.
Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications must be submitted using the online form.
